Gossip Girl Glam

Gossip Girl, our "one and only source into the scandalous lives of Manhattan's elite," was also my main style-spiration throughout middle school. A tad unrealistic considering I had less money than the Humphrey's, but regardless my adolescent mind was drawn to the clothes of the van der Woodsens and Waldorfs.

A new Glamour.com app lets you create a virtual model to try on clothes so you can pretend you have the closet of an Upper East Side prep school princess. The app is really fun, but it also makes me sad when I snap back to reality and remember my real wardrobe is pathetic in comparison.

Here are some tips to dress like the NYC socialite you know you are heart, while on the budget of a broke college student.

1. Every girl who survived high school on a less than adequate allowance knows that Forever 21 is your best bet for cheap, trendy pieces. This is where you're going to get all of your accessories, for cheap, to fool everyone into thinking you're the missing van der Woodsen. Find Blair-like headbands, or Serena-like hats to perfect any and every outfit.

2. Shopping the clearance section is the best way to get qualities pieces for half the price. Never underestimate the clearance section of sometimes expensive stores. Urban Outfitters has great deals, especially if you shop off season. My personal favorite is shopping at outlet stores like Nordstrom rack to get designer items, like the Gossip Girl cast wears, for a fraction of the cost.

3. It is okay to be a "Lizzie Mcguire outfit repeater"- if you do it with caution. Switch up how you wear your pieces. Pair your blazer one day with a ruffled blouse to go for a Blair Waldorf preppy look. The next day pair it with a graphic t-shirt and ripped jeans for a (post break-down) grungy Jenny Humphrey vibe. Experiment and have fun with your closet!

You know you love me.
xoxo,
Gossip Girl
