Style Evolution: Jennifer Lawrence

Jennifer Lawrence has had many successes over the last few years. She's slayed every award show season and every red carpet. But more importantly Jlaw has won us all over with her TV appearances.

Nobody can deny Jenn's humor, but she's also had some amazing outfits on all her TV show appearances. Here's a few of my favorite.

The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon: Keeping up with the jokes, Lawrence came out with a faux beard. All jokes aside she looked amazing in her elegant halter neck dress. A great balance to her cool lob.
Saturday Night Live: Then there was that time when she helped co-star Woody Harrleson with his SNL monologue and killed it in a sleeveless, black jumpsuit. And sang. Is there anything she can't do?
Late Show With David Letterman: My personal favorite: the time she got David Letterman to bring out a giant, pink blanket because she was cold. And she still looked flawless.

Style And The City

I've always idolized Carrie Bradshaw. Although, I'd probably say I've become more of a Miranda but thats a different story.

Carrie Bradshaw is the ultimate style icon. Her fearless fashion choices continue to stun me as I re-watch episodes for the millionth time. She may not be the most practical fashionista to follow, but here's a few of my all time favorite Carrie looks.

The Tutu Dress: The most iconic look of all time. I've still yet to get my own tutu dress. I'm probably a little too traumatized from my bad ballet years to give it a go.

The Bubble Dress: I'm a huge fan of Carrie's curls, but I love the contrast here with the sleek straight hair. And I love the simplicity of the dress.
The Wedding Suit: I thought Carrie's wedding dress was as obnoxious as the SATC movie. Her wedding suit in the courthouse, though, was adorable. Perfect end to a perfect series (except not because they made the unnecessary sequel).

Fine Fashion

As the super catchy The Nanny theme song tells us, "she had style, she had class, she was there," and that's how she became the nanny.

I saw an article on Refinery29 about how Fran Fine's outfits on The Nanny are pretty similar to a lot of trends today. When I think about how the '90s are making a comeback I always focus on the grungy looks, but a lot of Fran's over-the-top outfits are present in a today's trends.

Even though she was border line tacky (or maybe not so border line) with most of her outfits, the basic trends translate well to today. Fran's high wasted skirts with  matching crop tops can be seen today with a lot of stores selling sets of matching two piece separates.

Fran's beauty look also isn't far off from the Kylie Jenner-esque makeup trend. Long before Kylie
was snapping selfies for Instagram, Fran was over lining her lips with dark reds and accentuating her eyes with perfect winged liner.

And, of course, that iconic laugh could never go out of style.

Style Evolution: Kendall Jenner

I've been keeping up with the Kardashians for a while now. Over the last 11 years I've watched Kendall Jenner change from the awkward little sister I related with, to an international super model. Most recently Kendall stole the family spotlight in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show.

Here's a quick timeline highlighting Kendall's transformation from trendy tween to bombshell Angel.

1. I hate looking back at my old yearbooks and Bat Mitzvah album to see the ridiculous outfits I wore. It makes me feel a little better that Kendall has her awkward pictures from the KUWTK season one red carpet premiere for the whole world to see.
2. It didn't take too long for Kendall to start morphing into her Angel status. As early as 2009 she was already owning the red carpet, a foreshadow of the supermodel to come.
3. By the time the Hunger Games premiere rolled around in 2012, Kendall had started to create a name for herself in the fashion world. Her outfit and appearance at the premiere was a turning point in her career, and she started to be known as more than Kim's little sister.
4. Which brings us up to today, with Kendall owning the VS runway earlier this week. After conquering countless fashion shows around the world, Kendall earned her wings and status in the modeling world.

80s Fashion: Saved by the Bell

Disclaimer: I watched a lot of TV growing up. A lot of really old TV shows on repeats. I remember setting my TV to the right channel so that as soon as I came home from school I would run up and turn it on to catch the beginning of that day's episode of Saved by the Bell. This was back in 2008 when I didn't have to privilege of Netflix and missing an episode through me way off.
Saved by the Bell was probably the first thing I was ever exposed to that opened the door for a whole array of retro fashion to my middle school mind. I was in awe of the bright colors, the big hair, and, or course, Mario Lopez's dimples.

Flash forward to 2015 and I'm still equally as obsessed with the outfits on Saved by the Bell as my eighth grade self was. What's not to love about Kelly Kapowski's cheerleader uniform? Or literally anything that Lisa wore. I'd even go so far as to say that the awkward shirts Screech wore were fashionable.

So next time you have an 80s themed party, or maybe you're just planning really early for next year's Halloween, consider getting some inspo from the coolest kids at Bayside High School.

Freaky Fashion

I'll admit, I never went through a really rebellious angsty teen phase in high school. But I did live vicariously through the angsty teenage lives I watched as I went through my couch potato phase (a phase I'm still in and hope to never grow out of if I'm being completely honest). While there are many angsty TV teens to discuss, the one I admire most has to be Lindsay Weir.

There were many lessons to learn from Freaks and Geeks. From balancing different social circles, to sneaking out of your house for the fist time. But realistically the only lesson I actually transferred into my boring life was how to dress like Lindsay Weir.

Lindsay's go-to outfit is a timeless look. She's a character going to high school in 1980, on a show that aired in 2000, wearing an outfit that could easily be spotted around campus in 2015. To recreate Lindsay's badass look, you first have to find an oversized, army green jacket. Pair your jacket with awkward sweaters and a chronic grumpy face and you're good to go.

Bonus points if you find a young James Franco look-a-like to follow around.

Gilmore Girls Glam

Full disclosure here, I was late to the game on discovering the pure bliss that is Gilmore Girls. I only started binge watching last winter, and I still have a couple of seasons left. That didn't make it any less exciting though when I heard the news amazing enough to even make Jess Mariano smile: a Gilmore Girls revival season is coming to Netflix.

The Gilmore girls have taught us many lessons. How to have a borderline inappropriately close relationship with your mother/daughter. How to drink gallons of coffee a day to survive the struggles of every day life. And most importantly, how to dress- sometimes.
There have been a few questionable outfit choices throughout the years in Stars Hallow (i.e. anything either one of the Gilmore gals wore in Season 1), but overall I'd say there's a lot to admire fashion wise in the Gilmore clan.
If you're feeling extra preppy, get some inspiration from Rory's Chilton uniform. Future Ivy league look isn't really your style? Have no fear, Lorelai has you covered for style-spiration in everything from mom on-the-go to budding business entrepreneur. And if you still don't think you have enough inspiration from either of the Lorelai Gilmores, you can always copy Emily's timeless, classy ensembles. Better yet, go for the classic backwards hat/flannel combo Luke always pulls off.
